One of the toughest fish that swims, A thirty pound crevalle can keep an accomplished angler dancing around a boat for the better part of an hour in attempting to land these brawlers. We once had a Catskill brook trouter present to a fifteen pounder with a five weight and rim control drag. After an hour and multiple knuckle contusions, he looked up and smiled grimly. "This is no fun at all, but, I'm going to land it." Twenty five minutes later he did. Each spring crevalles amass along our beach in a weird mating ritual, much like daisy-chaining tarpon. At this time they are highly visible and easy light tackle targets. Twenty pound fish are common. Our best record to date is a 35 pounder on fly, but this will be broken.
